Online Japanese Language Program

Showa Women's University (SWU) has a reputation for offering an excellent communication-based Japanese language program for non-degree semester study abroad students. With much experience offering the semester program online during the COVID-19 outbreak, SWU launched a new short-term ONLINE language program for those who want to enhance their Japanese proficiency without traveling to Japan. This program also helps those who plan to join the semester program at SWU to get ready for their academic life in Japan before an actual study abroad.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

1-month program, with 120-minute class per day, 3 days a week. (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
This program is designed for CEFR A2~ beginner B1 level students who have obtained JLPT N4 or are close to doing so.
Official transcripts with 1 SWU credit (=1.5 ECTS) will be awarded to those who complete the program.
Those who have achieved close to the JLPT N3 upon completion of this program and are interested in an actual semester study abroad is eligible for our “Intensive Japanese Language Program.” Student must submit a separate application to be considered for the program by the designated applicaiton deadline.

BASIC JAPANESE ONLINE PROGRAM I
Period: July 8th (Mon) - August 5th (Mon), 2024
*The class meets on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Class Dates: July 8, 10, 11, 17, 18, 22, 24, 25, 29, 31 / August 1, 5
　*No class on July 15th due to a national holiday.
　*Orientation will be set a few days before the class start.
Class Time: 4~6 PM (Japan Standard Time)
Study Hours: 12 class sessions (120 minutes per session)
Credit: 1 SWU Credit (=1.5 ECTS)
Fee: 40,000 JPY
*Fee is waived for those using the student exchange quota of an agreement between SWU and the applicant's home institution. For quesionts about your eligibility, please inquire your home institution.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be an undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in a higher education institution outside of Japan.
Must have completed introductory-level Japanese.

e.g.) Completed 250－300 hours of Japanese language study / Finished studying with the following textbooks:
「みんなの日本語1＆2（Minna no Nihongo Ⅰ＆Ⅱ」, 「げんき1＆2（GENKI: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese I＆Ⅱ）」

OTHER FEATURES

Online classes will be conducted via Zoom.
Google Classroom will be used for class announcements and assignments.
Small class size: 6-10 students per class.
There will be SWU supporting students joining the class, offering a chance to interact and communicate in Japanese with Japanese college students.
Official transcript and certificate of completion are available upon completion of the program.

APPLICATION

Pease access the Application Form (Google Form) and input/upload all necessary information by the deadline.
You will be asked to upload your most recent transcript and score on the TTBJ-STPO90 test on this application form.
Please access the TTBJ Test Website and take the "TTBJ SPOT90" test before submitting the application form.

FEE PAYMENT and CANCELLATION POLICY

The minimum number of participants needed to open the program is 6 students. Applicants will be notify if the program cannot be offered.
The tuition invoice will be sent to students by the end of May. The payment deadline is June 15th.
Students will be asked to make the payment via "Flywire" .

There is NO tuition refund after June 15th, regardless of the reason for cancellation.
