The period from infancy to childhood is considered to be an important period for cultivating the foundations of character and ability to survive throughout life, and system reform of early childhood education and elementary education is currently progressing rapidly, especially in developed countries.Given this trend, I would like to offer my sincere support to all of you who wish to take up meaningful work in which you are responsible for the lives of children and support their learning.

Understand Showa Women's University's educational goals and degree conferment policy, and have a clear sense of purpose to acquire practical knowledge of elementary education and contribute to society. We are looking for bright and cheerful people with excellent expressiveness who will continue to make efforts and work with a sincere attitude in everything they do.In addition, we accept students who have the qualities and abilities to study according to the curriculum of this department.To that end, we recruit applicants through a variety of entrance examination methods and select them in a multifaceted and comprehensive manner.

1. Subjects/subjects recommended to master before enrolling

  • ・Japanese language: Possess a rich sense of language and be able to accurately speak, listen, write, and read by using language to see and think.
  • ・Foreign language (English): Comprehensively acquire the four skills of English: speaking, listening, writing, and reading, and are able to understand and organize information and other people's intentions, and express their own thoughts and ideas. Able to convey opinions accurately.
Note: In addition, it is recommended that students take well-balanced courses in geography, history, civics, mathematics, science, health and physical education, art, home, and information.

The Department of Elementary Education systematically organizes specialized education subjects in addition to general education subjects, foreign language subjects, and culture courses, in order to acquire the abilities that are listed in the degree conferment policy.
Educational content, educational methods, and evaluation are defined as follows.

General education subjects include subjects that will serve as guidelines for the four years of study (``Practical Ethics'' and ``Introduction to Career Design'') and subjects that will form the basis of future learning (``Basic Japanese'' and ``Introduction to Data Science''). In addition, we will organize a group of subjects that will deepen your understanding of society, culture, and nature, and cultivate a multifaceted perspective.
  • 02.For foreign language subjects, English, other major foreign languages, and Japanese (for international students) will be arranged according to proficiency level.
  • 03. In order to acquire a wide range of knowledge and develop an interdisciplinary perspective, we will provide common undergraduate subjects.
  • 04. A group of general education subjects will be arranged as common subjects in the department as subjects for learning about the principles of human development, basic educational theory, and educational issues in modern society, and acquiring the educational knowledge essential for educators and childcare workers.   • 05. Educational skills/educational clinical subjects will be placed as common subjects in the department as subjects to solidify each student's basic knowledge and skills and develop practical skills in the field of education and childcare.
  • 06. ``Operation of information devices'' and ``Educational methods and techniques'' are subjects that teach basic knowledge and usage of information devices required in an information society, and subjects that develop the ability to respond to the introduction of ICT in educational settings. and ``educational methods'' and ``teaching methods'' for each subject/area.

<Child Education Course>
  • ・One year of lectures on basic understanding of education, such as the philosophy, history and thought of education, the social environment surrounding children, the mental and physical development and learning process of children and toddlers, and understanding of children and toddlers who require special support. Placement will be arranged sequentially from the next year to the third year.
  • ・Education basics will be provided as a first-year education for students to learn the basic knowledge and skills of Japanese language, social studies, mathematics, and science necessary to become an elementary school teacher, and to learn how to use them.
  • ・Lectures and seminars on each subject and teaching method will be systematically arranged from the second year.
  • ・From the second year onwards, lectures and seminars will be systematically arranged on topics such as morality and comprehensive study time, teaching methods for special activities, and theories and methods of student guidance, educational counseling, and career education.
  • ・Understand educational efforts and the duties of teachers, learn how to interact with children and infants, learn interpersonal relationships and communication skills in the field, cultivate practical class and student leadership skills, and develop enthusiasm and aptitude for the teaching profession In order to grasp it, we will arrange subjects for teaching practice and on-site experience.
<Early Childhood Education Course>

  • ・In the first-year education, students learn about the knowledge and skills related to music, modeling, the body, and linguistic expression that are necessary for becoming kindergarten teachers and childcare workers, and how to use them.
  • - Required subjects required to obtain childcare teacher qualification will be taught in the first and second years, and elective subjects will be taught in the third year.
  • ・From the second year onwards, we systematically arrange lectures and seminars on teaching methods for areas and childcare content.
  • ・From the second year onwards, lectures and seminars on theories and methods of understanding infants and childcare/education consultation support will be systematically arranged.
