The Department of English Language and Communication systematically organizes specialized subjects in addition to liberal arts subjects, foreign language subjects, and cultural subjects, in order to acquire the abilities listed in the degree conferment policy.

Educational content, educational methods, and evaluation are defined as follows.

General education subjects include ``Practical Ethics,'' ``Introduction to Career Design,'' and ``Basics of Japanese,'' which serve as guidelines for the four years of study, and are a group of subjects that deepen understanding of society, culture, and nature, and cultivate a multifaceted perspective. organize.
  2. For foreign language subjects, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese (for international students) are arranged by proficiency level.
  3. In specialized education, compulsory subjects and elective subjects are divided based on the systematic nature of the specialized field, and subjects are arranged sequentially by semester.
  4. In the 1st and 2nd years, compulsory subjects related to English skills, learning skills, and information communication skills are arranged, and academic knowledge and skills are learned step by step.
  5. In the 1st and 2nd years, consideration will be given to undergraduate common subjects and global subjects, and along with acquiring an international education, students will learn the basics of academic knowledge in specialized subjects taught in English.
  6. As a general rule, students will study abroad by the second semester of their second year, and in addition to Boston preparation courses before studying abroad and advanced skill courses after studying abroad, a group of courses that can be taken only in English will be offered.
  7. In specialized education, introductory subjects are arranged in the first year, and elective subjects in two specialized fields, culture/language and international communication, are offered from the first half of the third year to the second half of the fourth year.
  8. As a result of the educational content centered on specialized education subjects, students will be assigned graduation thesis and graduation work as compulsory subjects in the fourth year, and the instructor will provide guidance on education and research.

  10. Lectures and concerts by researchers, cultural figures, and artists from Japan and overseas are held as "cultural lectures" in order to establish self-esteem, develop creativity, and grow spiritually and emotionally. will do.
  11. In order to develop independence, cooperation, and a spirit of service, students are required to participate in overnight training for a certain period from their first to third years in each department.

In addition to various study abroad programs at Showa Boston, accredited study abroad programs and double degree programs at various partner universities, including Temple University Japan Campus, have been established.
