Features of the Department of Life Culture Studies

The feature of this major is that, in order to elucidate the history and culture of Japan and the world, we examine the arts and sciences, including history (Japan, East and West), folklore, archaeology, art history, entertainment history, cultural property studies, and archival studies. We offer a wide range of cross-disciplinary academic fields. For this reason, the historical materials we handle are diverse, including literature, vessels, excavated materials, paintings, sculptures, kagura, and steel cultural properties. The aim of research is to write a master's thesis through academic methods such as understanding previous research and collecting, analyzing, and examining historical materials. After completing their studies, they may proceed to a doctoral course to further deepen their research, or find employment in related jobs such as curators or teachers involved in history and culture. It is also possible to obtain a specialized license (society, geography, history) as a teaching license.
In addition to the two-year course, this major also offers a one-year course in which working adults and current teachers can earn a master's degree in one year.Furthermore, starting in April 2, we have established a program to train archivists, who are specialized in public record management. In this program, you can acquire the "knowledge and skills" required for the National Archives' "Archivist" certification.
01

Established a one-year course for working adults

This is a step-up course for those with practical experience who have obtained curatorial qualifications and those who aspire to become archivists. We have an easy-to-take system that incorporates online classes. As a non-degree student, you will complete a one-year regular course after receiving prior guidance from your academic advisor. We are only recruiting for the entrance exam for working adults.
