Features of the Department of Welfare Social Studies

This major will further develop issues related to welfare society, social welfare and modern society, and will conduct interdisciplinary research on welfare society systems in a comprehensive manner.Specifically, students will conduct research according to their own field of interest, such as welfare policy, child welfare, elderly care, welfare for the disabled, social work, medical welfare, community welfare, life welfare management, family society, local community, urban society, life management, representation culture, social networks, and comparative sociology of education.

Aiming to create a better welfare society that emphasizes human rights, social justice, and human dignity, and to develop the human resources who will take on this role, we advance research in welfare policy, social work, child welfare, social services for the elderly, medical welfare, etc.

International/Gender

Cultivate a gender perspective that is essential for research on welfare society. Students will learn about the distinctive theories of women in the early 20th century and international trends regarding women and gender, and examine Japan's women's policy, gender equality policy, labor policy, and social welfare policy.

Economy/Society/Region

We conduct research from a global perspective, including contemporary social and economic conditions that influence the formation of a welfare society, international relations, national, ethnic, and language policies, and modern life management theory.In addition, students will learn the theory and methods of regional environmental planning based on the keywords of housing as a human right, welfare, environment, coexistence, and sustainability.
