Thank you for your interest in the Department of Psychology at Showa Women's University.
We would like to briefly introduce the characteristics of our university's Department of Psychology.
Psychology has adopted a variety of methods to investigate the mechanisms and functions of the ``mind,'' which is invisible but certainly exists. These include experimental methods, observation methods, and questionnaire methods. Our university's Department of Psychology has prepared a curriculum that allows students to learn about these methods in an orderly and easy-to-understand manner through a wealth of exercises and practical training starting in their first year.
"Why does that person act like that?"
Psychological questions are related to our everyday questions. The process of solving these questions is a very enjoyable experience. In our Psychology Department, many faculty members cover the major areas of psychology, namely "cognitive," "developmental," "clinical," and "social," which helps to understand the "mind" from multiple perspectives. In the graduation research, each student can explore their own questions within these broad areas.
In addition, our psychology department has prepared a "career preparation program" that allows students to study independently and be aware of their career goals that utilize psychology.Consumer behavior and psychological research","Lifelong development and community","Psychological support basicsYou can freely choose from the following three programs:

What is psychology?
"Psychology" is a translation of psychology and was introduced at the beginning of the Meiji period. It means the ``science'' of the mind. ``Science,'' in modern parlance, is ``science,'' and is a field of study that is used to theoretically explain the mechanisms of things and the laws of phenomena. In other words, ``psychology'' is the science of ``the mind.''"The science of the mind"?
What does it mean to “scientify the mind”? The ``heart'' cannot be directly seen or touched. However, you all know that you have a ``heart,'' and you feel that your ``heart'' changes in various ways as you interact with people and in your daily life. And I know that people other than myself have "hearts" as well.Psychology has adopted a variety of methods to investigate the mechanisms and functions of the ``mind,'' which is invisible but certainly exists. These include experimental methods, observation methods, and questionnaire methods. Our university's Department of Psychology has prepared a curriculum that allows students to learn about these methods in an orderly and easy-to-understand manner through a wealth of exercises and practical training starting in their first year.
