Can I participate in the double degree program with TUJ (Temple University, Japan Campus) or UQ (University of Queensland) no matter what language I choose?
Only students who choose German or French can participate. The Shanghai Jiao Tong University Double Degree Program is open to students who choose Chinese, and the Sookmyung Women's University/Seoul Women's University Double Degree Program is open to students who choose Korean.
*There are nationality requirements for the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Double Degree Program and the Sookmyung Women's University Double Degree Program. In addition, certain standards for language proficiency, grades, etc. must be met in order to participate in the double degree programs.

What kind of jobs do most people get after graduation?
Graduates of the Department of International Studies, who have the advantage of being able to speak another language in addition to English, are active in a variety of industries, including trading companies, IT, aviation and transportation, and retail. Recently, there has also been an increase in graduates going on to public service or graduate school. For specific examples, please see the department pamphlet.
I would like to study abroad at TUJ (Temple University Japan Campus) in addition to Germany or France. Is that possible?
Is possible. However, studying abroad at partner schools in English-speaking countries, including TUJ, requires a high level of English proficiency.Make a plan and study carefully while consulting with your teachers.
Will students who choose German or French study abroad at Showa Boston?
Students who choose Germany and France will study abroad at Showa Boston for the first semester. However, students who meet certain criteria by September 1th of their first year can choose to study abroad at another destination directly without going to Showa Boston. Showa Boston also has a comprehensive advanced academic English program for students who want to study abroad at English-speaking partner universities, so many students first improve their English skills at Showa Boston and then try studying abroad at a partner university.
If I participate in TUJ's double degree program, will I be able to study abroad in Germany or France?
TUJ is an American university, so you need to meet high English proficiency and grade standards to be admitted. You will also be officially transferred to TUJ in the second semester of your third year, but even after enrolling, you will need to make a lot of effort to keep up with the rigorous classes at an American university. It may be possible to go to Germany or France by participating in a short-term program during the long vacation, but I do not strongly recommend it. After graduating from TUJ (if all goes well, at the end of April in your fifth year), there will be a lot of time before you return to Showa Women's University (October 3st of the same year), so I think it would be best to study abroad at that time.
How much does it cost to study abroad? Is there any financial support available?
For information on study abroad costs, please see the International Studies Department's study abroad brochure. In addition to the university's own scholarships listed here, we also recruit external scholarships. For more information, please contact us after enrollment.

I'm having trouble deciding between the Business Design Department, the International Liberal Arts Department, the International Japanese Department, and the International Department. What are the differences?
First of all, the specialized subjects are different, so please check the page of each department in the university guide. All four departments place emphasis on improving English skills, but there are differences in the study of foreign languages other than English. In the Department of Business Design, credits for foreign languages other than English are not included in graduation credits. In the Department of International Liberal Arts, students basically study the selected foreign language twice a week in the first and second semesters, but they can also study that language as an elective. In the Department of International Studies, students also study foreign languages other than English as specialized subjects. All four departments have the same study abroad program, but while the Business Design Department, the Department of International Liberal Arts, and the Department of International Japan Studies mainly study abroad in English-speaking countries, the Department of International Studies offers study abroad programs in Asia and Europe. Also, only the Department of International Liberal Arts can obtain an English teaching license.
If I major in Spanish, Chinese, or Korean, can I still study at TUJ?
It is possible to study at TUJ, but studying at TUJ means taking classes with native speaker students, so you will need a very high level of English (pre-2024st grade to 3st grade or above in EIKEN). Please make a plan from your first year. Also, if you choose China, Korea, Spain, Vietnam, you will study abroad in that country for one year. The university regulations stipulate that a study abroad program is one year (excluding double degree programs), so you cannot study abroad at TUJ. You will only be able to take one or two courses. From XNUMX onwards, as a general rule, students who choose China, Korea, Spain, Vietnam will take a course called "Study Abroad in Japan (DIS)" at TUJ for their English classes in the second semester of their third year, so students who choose China, Korea, Vietnam, Vietnam will have more opportunities to improve their English at TUJ.
Is it possible to study abroad in two countries, such as China and the United States, or South Korea and the United States?
Basically, you can study in two countries if you choose French and German. However, if you choose another language (Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese), you can do so by combining it with a short-term program during a long vacation. However, if you are taking courses at TUJ, you can participate if you meet the criteria, regardless of the language you choose.
I hear that I will be studying my chosen language intensively, but I am worried that my English skills will deteriorate.
At your study abroad destination, you may be able to take English classes, English conversation classes, or TOEIC preparation classes. In addition, since there are many foreign students studying abroad, you will communicate in English (outside of class). (This overlaps with the answer to the question two questions above, but) in the second semester of your third year, you can take a course called "Study Abroad in Japan (DIS)" at TUJ and improve your English skills through discussions and presentations.
What kind of specialized subjects do you offer other than language classes?
International and regional contributions (“International development cooperation,” “NGO activities and social contributions,” etc.), international society and multicultural coexistence (“Intercultural communication,” “Comparative social theory,” etc.), and Japanese studies (“Modern Japanese history”) ``Introduction to Japanese Society,'' etc.) and international/area studies. *“ ” is the example subject name
Was the study abroad program of the Department of International Studies canceled during the period when travel to foreign countries was restricted due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection?
In 2020 and 2021, we conducted online study abroad in coordination with the study abroad destination. In 2022, I resumed my study abroad program, and since there were restrictions on issuing study abroad visas in China, I changed my study abroad destination to Taiwan, and after the restrictions were eased, I went to study abroad. We strive to keep students learning no matter the circumstances.
What languages are available in the "International Student Track"? Can I study abroad or participate in a double degree program?
Students enrolled in the international student track can only choose Japanese in addition to English. Studying abroad is optional. If you choose to study abroad, you will generally study at Showa Boston, TUJ, an English-speaking university, or an overseas partner university that offers English courses. You cannot participate in double degree programs.
*The "International Student Track" is a program created for international students. In principle, international students who enroll in the Department of International Studies will be enrolled in the international student track. However, if they meet the specified Japanese language level at the time of enrollment, they can also take the regular track (choose one language other than Japanese from the following languages: German, French, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese in addition to English, and study abroad as a graduation requirement) if they wish.
