Three pillars: culture, language, and education.We explore the cultural background, social structure, customs, and mental movements of the people who live in English literature, texts, and images.Through research into the history, sounds, vocabulary, grammar, and meaning of English, you will deepen your understanding of language itself and the relationship between humans and language.Learn about English education for junior high schools, high schools, and children.
International communication
Business Communication focuses on the communication skills needed to survive in the business world.Media Communication explores how to use various media effectively.

Curriculum

Developing human resources who can play an active role in the world with advanced English proficiency and expertise

English classes are organized by proficiency level to improve your English skills in everyday and academic contexts.While studying abroad in Boston, you will not only develop your English proficiency in small classes, but also improve your English communication skills through community activities, field trips, and interactions with local residents and students.After studying abroad, she will use English to study subjects in her specialized field and acquire more advanced English skills.Students will take introductory courses in their specialized fields before studying abroad, and after studying abroad, they will pursue specialization according to their own interests.Students develop the ability to ask their own questions and explore things from multiple perspectives, and complete their graduation thesis and production.

IELTS™ is a four-proficiency English language test required for studying at overseas universities. You can apply for an accredited study abroad program by obtaining an IELTS 4 score.Many students in our department who aim to study abroad accredited or to earn a degree are focusing on studying for IELTS™.Our department supports learning through IELTS™ workshops and classes.

Children's English Education/Junior High School English License

In this department, it is possible to obtain a middle school and high school teaching staff license, and there is also a children's English education program where students can earn credits in designated subjects and receive a university certificate upon graduation.You can acquire the basic knowledge you need to acquire when teaching as an English teacher.

Contributing to the community in English

"Contributing to the Community with English" is a class that teaches how to use English in the real world through collaboration with NPOs and companies. In 2022, together with students from Temple University Japan Campus, we helped a long-established kimono store in Yamagata City promote inbound tourism, and were introduced in multiple local media.

Showa Women's University conducts project-based learning in which students use their specialized knowledge to come up with solutions to problems that have no answers.
