01The future is coming true
The power of AI and digital technology is opening up possibilities that were previously unimaginable. For example,
  • Develop and sell new products that anticipate consumer preferences and trends based on the results of AI-based analysis of social media and online reviews.
  • Smart medical care that monitors health data in real time to detect early signs of illness and use AI to suggest preventive measures
  • Using AI to analyze data collected by sensors installed in buildings and roads, we aim to create cities that are traffic-free, energy-efficient, convenient, easy to live in, and environmentally friendly.
02
02The ideal talent for a digital society
In the digital society of the 2030s, not just a few cutting-edge companies and IT engineers but all industries will require talent with the ability to use AI and digital technology to solve problems and create new products and services.

How do you make your dreams come true in times like these?
03
03Why the Faculty of Informatics?
Based on discussions with several companies at the forefront of data and digital technology utilization, we have created a curriculum to develop the digital talent that society is currently demanding. It is not just the technology that is important, but the ability to utilize it.

By learning data science to analyze data and digital technology to turn the results of that analysis into services at the Faculty of Information Science, your future possibilities will be limitless.

Mr. Yoshiharu Hoshino
In the future, more and more companies will aim to improve their competitiveness through DX, so I think people with digital knowledge and skills will be strong when they enter society. When implementing DX, we need people who can understand both the field and the engineers and act as an intermediary to drive the project forward. As such, there is an overwhelming shortage of people who can connect the field and the engineers. I look forward to seeing digital talent with expertise and creativity emerge from the Faculty of Informatics five years from now, when the first class graduates. The world will have changed dramatically by then, and these abilities will have become even more important.

There is no doubt that AI (artificial intelligence) will be the basis of society and life in the future. For that reason, I feel that the new faculty is packed with elements that are in line with the times, where you can learn data knowledge and digital technology that are essential for AI, the soft skills that humans who operate AI should have, and specialized knowledge in areas where DX (transformation using data and digital technology) is progressing. I feel that what you learn at the Faculty of Informatics has high future potential, and will be useful in any job. It is also suitable for people who want to consider their future vision.

Three Key Words for the Integrated Arts and Sciences Curriculum

It is people who possess expertise in the three areas of "digital technology," "soft skills," and "domain knowledge" who can meet the huge shortage of digital talent in Japan and pave the way for the future of the digital society.
The company
In the Faculty of Information Science, mathematics is not a required subject for entrance exams, but in the first year, students start by reviewing high school mathematics and carefully learning mathematics and statistics from the basics, building a solid foundation for acquiring digital technology. From the second year, students in the Department of Data Science learn analytics such as machine learning used in A1, and in the Department of Digital Innovation, they acquire ICT and app development and design.
Soft Skills
When implementing digital technology in society or in a company, collaboration and coordination with many stakeholders is required. By acquiring soft skills (skills related to human characteristics and behaviors such as communication skills, problem-solving skills, and leadership), you will be able to lead large projects and take on important roles.
Domain Knowledge
From the second year onwards, students will study three domains (areas where data and digital technology are used): business (marketing, human resource development, etc.), health, and psychology. From the third year onwards, students will work on exercises and projects that utilize digital technology in the domain, acquiring advanced implementation skills backed by domain knowledge.

Three domains to choose from

Even if you only have knowledge of data analysis and digital technology, you will not be able to come up with compelling ideas to solve problems without a deep understanding of the field (domain) you will be using it in. These three fields are areas in which our university has accumulated expertise through other departments, and they are also areas that are ideal for women to use data and digital technology.
Business
Feature 01
You can learn everything from the basics to applications of marketing, which is essential in all industries, and human resource development, where the use of data and digital technology will expand greatly in the future. You can also take courses on the analysis and visualization of management information, and the development of new products using AI.
healthy
Feature 02
In recent years, the idea of "health and productivity management," which aims to improve productivity by promoting employee health, has been gaining importance. This calls for the utilization of various data, including daily diet and physical activity, and students will learn a wide range of basic knowledge and practical examples for this purpose.
psychological
Feature 03
You can learn how to perceive interpersonal relationships and process information, how to behave in groups while influencing each other, and psychological behavior measurement and analysis from the basics to applications. We explore ways to use data to support decision-making and communication.

Q&A

I have chosen the humanities course but not mathematics. Is that okay?
That's okay. You can take the entrance exam for both departments without choosing mathematics. After enrolling, all students will study basic high school mathematics and the required range of mathematics for each department in small classes. The goal is not to perform complex calculations or proofs, but to acquire the ability to understand the meaning of models used in data analysis.
Can I study not only the theories of data science and digital technology, but also what can I do to apply them in the real world and solve problems?
Students take practical courses every year from the first to fourth year. After learning not only theory but also programming, there are also classes where students carry out case studies using actual data, create apps of their own choosing, and propose new products. There are also many projects and internships in collaboration with companies.
Will I be able to study the specialized content of the domain thoroughly?
Both departments offer five courses in each of the three domains (business, health, and psychology). In addition, the Data Science Department offers multiple courses that teach how to apply data science to these fields.
Do I have to take courses in all domains?
You can choose to learn the general content of all three domains to gain broad expertise, or you can focus on one area that interests you and study it in great depth to deepen your expertise.
Why are soft skills important?
In the real world, it is important to create and realize new things through trial and error, rather than creating something with a set answer. You will also be required to gather the opinions and ideas of people with different positions and ways of thinking, and to bring together a team to work toward a goal. Learning these skills will be very useful when solving problems at work and creating new products and services.
Which subject is right for me?
The Department of Data Science is suitable for those who are interested in learning data science thoroughly from intermediate to advanced levels and performing analysis and predictions that will help solve problems and make decisions in society and companies. The Department of Digital Innovation is recommended for those who are interested in developing apps and systems and creating new products and services while acquiring the basics of data science.
